Arthroplasty

Transforming lives through advanced joint replacement

Arthroplasty, particularly joint replacement surgery, has revolutionized the treatment of debilitating joint conditions. With Indian Health Centres, patients across the globe can avail themselves of world-class arthroplasty services, including joint replacement, to regain mobility and improve their quality of life.

We are affiliated with the most skilled orthopaedic surgeons and the leading hospitals across the country to perform a range of procedures, such as knee, hip, and shoulder replacements, with utmost precision and care.

At Indian Health Care Centres, we pride ourselves with enabling the latest, cutting-edge technology in every field of medical practice. One such initiative is robotic-assisted surgery that ensures optimal alignment, implant positioning, and better long-term outcomes for patients.

We have skilled surgeons with expertise in robotic-assisted surgery, allowing for enhanced precision and accuracy during procedures.

For those seeking treatment for joint pain, we offer comprehensive solutions that employ a multidisciplinary approach, incorporating latest technology, medications, physiotherapy, and minimally invasive procedures, to provide effective relief and improve joint functionality.

Total Knee Replacement (TKR) is a widely performed procedure that successfully addresses severe knee pain caused by conditions like osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. With a focus on patient-centric care, TKR we offer ensures personalized treatment plans and post-operative rehabilitation programs.

We also state-of-the-art rehabilitation centres dedicated to joint care. These centres provide comprehensive post-operative care, physiotherapy, and specialized programs to facilitate optimal recovery and rehabilitation after joint replacement surgeries. Patients receive personalized attention and guidance from expert therapists and healthcare professionals.

Affordability is another significant advantage that makes us most sought after. The reasonable cost of joint replacement surgeries, including TKR, makes it an attractive option for patients seeking high-quality care at an affordable price.

Surgery by orthopedic robots is has significantly increased over the past few years. Data reveals that in 2020, 11% of all the knee reconstruction surgeries were completed with ‘robotic assistance.’

Typically, there are three types of robotic systems based on the degree of control the surgeon has over the robot:1,2

  • Passive: These do not independently perform the surgery and are often called computer assisted or navigation systems. Procedures done through the passive system are typically based on the centered reference points provided by the surgeon prior to the surgery.
  • Autonomous or active: Active robots actually hold the cutting tools and can autonomously make the resections to the bone
  • Hands-on or semi-active: Semi-active robots combine the active and the passive methods. Here the control of the bone resection is maintained by the surgeon under the surveillance of the robot.

Robotic total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has various benefits compared to traditional TKA methods including -1,2

  • Improved accuracy of implant positioning
  • Greater chances of achieving the planned limb alignment
  • Minimally invasive i.e. to does not need large cuts or incisions to perform the surgery
  • Shorter recovery time and minimal hospital stay
  • Better balance post surgery

A study conducted by Blum CL and published in the Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery

2021 show that patients who had undergone robotic knee replacement surgeries reported significantly higher satisfaction in terms of pain, movement, alignment and stability and balance as compared to those undergoing traditional arthroplasty.3 Another study published in the Journal of Orthopedics (2022) demonstrated significantly higher patient satisfaction, reduced time taken for independent movement, and improved joint perception during daily activities after a robotic-assisted TKA. Interestingly, most of these patients responded that if given a choice they would prefer to opt for robotic surgery if they would undergo surgery again. In addition, they would also recommend a robotic-surgery to others who seek similar treatment.
